Engine exhaust noise, a major acoustic issue

Heat engines used in industrial installations, whether for power generation or backup, generate particularly high levels of exhaust noise. These emissions are often the cause of nuisance, mechanical stress on structures and regulatory non-compliance.

Noise comes mainly from the opening of exhaust valves, when combustion gases are expelled under high pressure into the manifold. This impulsive phenomenon creates pressure waves that propagate down the exhaust line, affecting operator safety, working environment comfort and equipment durability.

The SM EVO 2 has been designed to meet these challenges: its optimized internal flow promotes greater motor efficiency while keeping pressure losses under control. Its robust structure, combined with a compact footprint, facilitates handling and integration operations.

The SM EVO 2 embodies the new generation of exhaust silencers for internal combustion engines. Developed to reconcile acoustic performance and airflow, it is easy to integrate and incorporates significant improvements over the previous version.

Available in three attenuation classes(30, 40 and 50 dB(A)), it covers all motor configurations and site requirements. Its optimized design reduces load losses and improves motor efficiency in a compact format.

The SM EVO 2 is designed for rapid integration, in either horizontal or vertical position. Standard connection is via flanges, with counter-flanges, gaskets and bolts supplied. Specific connection options are available on request.

Our standard range has been designed using an advanced engineering approach:

Dissipative attenuation enables mid and high frequencies to be treated by absorption, using porous materials such as acoustic wools and foams. Sound energy is dissipated by friction and deformation, optimized by porosity, tortuosity and air resistivity.
Selection and characterization in an independent laboratory of a mineral wool, chosen for its acoustic properties, hydrophobicity, rot-proofing and resistance to high temperatures.
Reactive attenuation relies on the reflection and interference of sound waves, implemented by resonance chambers, impedance breaks, and Helmholtz, quarter-wave or Herschel-Quincke resonators, enabling targeted optimization of low frequencies.
Silencer design using finite element and finite volume calculations (FEA, CFD).
Validation through laboratory and field tests.

Each SM EVO 2 silencer is defined by its nominal diameter (DN) and sound attenuation class. Other diameters and lengths are available on request.

Shell material: Manufactured in S235JR carbon steel as standard, 304L or 316L on request
Soundproofing : Non-combustible high-density mineral wool
Internal thermal insulation limits heat radiation and improves safety around the exhaust.
High-temperature coating for excellent corrosion resistance
Nominal diameter (DN): SM30 EVO 2 and SM40 EVO 2: from 50 to 800 mm and SM50 EVO 2 from : 150 to 800 mm
Total length (TL): from 551 to 6838 mm (depending on model and DN).
Net weight (without flanges): from 8 to 2217 kg (depending on model and DN).
Operating temperature: up to 500°C (higher on request).
