Project background
The Supersonic is an emblematic concert hall that hosts rock and amplified music groups on a weekly basis. Situated in a dense residential environment, the venue was faced with recurring complaints about low-frequency noise emissions, which were particularly difficult to attenuate. These nuisances threatened not only the reputation of the venue, but also its operating license.
The aim of the project was therefore clear: to reduce external noise emissions while preserving the internal acoustic quality essential to the smooth running of concerts.
Technical and environmental constraints
A demanding urban environment
Situated in the heart of a residential area, the Supersonic had to achieve a strict level of acoustic insulation to avoid any measurable noise emergence at the facade. The configuration of the building, combined with its close proximity to housing, called for a solution that was both efficient and compatible with existing structural constraints.
Complex low frequencies to master
The low frequencies generated by amplified music are the main challenge facing concert halls. These vibrations propagate through structures and can penetrate traditional walls. Acoustic treatment therefore had to specifically target this frequency range (63 to 250 Hz), while guaranteeing a perfect seal at weak points in the building envelope, notably access points.
Compliance with ERP standards
As the site is classified as an Etablissement Recevant du Public (ERP), the solutions implemented had to comply with fire safety and accessibility requirements, while ensuring high acoustic performance.
The Groupe BOËT acoustic solution
To meet these requirements, Groupe BOËT designed, manufactured and installed custom-made Acoustic doors specially adapted to the Supersonic’s needs.
High-performance door units
The Acoustic doors installed have a sound attenuation performance of 58 dB (Rw), with an efficiency of over 30 dB at low frequencies. Their design incorporates a galvanized steel structure, peripheral compression joints and a multi-layer filling combining mass and absorption for maximum insulation.
Adapting to site constraints
The doors were designed to blend harmoniously with the existing architecture, without altering the internal circulation or the aesthetics of the site. Installation was carried out in coordination with the site’s technical management, so as to limit business interruption.
ERP compliance and sustainability
In addition to their acoustic performance, the door units meet ERP standards (NF EN 1634) for fire resistance and user safety. The powder-coated finish and robust components ensure long service life, even under intensive use.
Measured performance and benefits
Following installation, a campaign of acoustic measurements was carried out by an independent engineering firm. The results confirmed a reduction in external noise emissions of over 15 dB(A), enabling the site to comply fully with current regulations.
- Effective attenuation of low frequencies (up to 30 dB reduction) ;
- Elimination of noise emissions from facades ;
- Maintain acoustic comfort inside the room.
This performance has enabled Supersonic to maintain its operating permit, while significantly improving relations with its neighbors.
Impact on operations and compliance
Groupe Boët ‘s intervention has enabled the Supersonic to take a decisive step forward in the control of its sound environment. The acoustic solutions deployed now guarantee full compliance with current regulations, while preserving the musical identity and dynamics of the venue.
Noise levels transmitted to the outside world have been drastically reduced, ensuring both the peace of mind of the neighborhood and the long-term operability of the concert hall and studios.
This project illustrates Groupe BOËT’s ability to integrate high-performance acoustic systems into complex cultural environments, where artistic creation must coexist with strict regulatory and structural constraints. The Group’s expertise is expressed here through customized design, acoustic project management anduncompromising technical integration.
