Center d’audioprothèse Grand Audition: acoustic performance and hearing comfort

Medical

Precision for hearing

In the field of audioprosthetics, the acoustic quality of audiometry rooms is an essential factor. The slightest parasitic noise or excessive reverberation can alter hearing test results and reduce diagnostic accuracy. That’s why the Centre Grand Audition has entrusted the Groupe BOËT with the design and installation of a tailor-made acoustic treatment that meets the most stringent regulatory requirements.

This project is a perfect illustration of the Groupe BOËT’s ability to combine technical expertise, acoustic engineering and architectural integration to offer a controlled sound environment, adapted to professional practice and patient comfort.

Project background

The aim of the project was to ensure that background noise levels and reverberation times in the center’s audiometry rooms complied with regulatory thresholds. These parameters are crucial to the reliability of audiometric tests and user comfort.

The premises concerned were located in a structure already in operation, making any intervention particularly delicate. There were multiple constraints:

  • Maintain normal operation of the center during the work;
  • Managing residual noise from HVAC equipment and traffic;
  • Dealing with limited space and severe architectural constraints.

Technical and architectural constraints

A sensitive and restricted environment

The site required the acoustic elements to be integrated quickly and discreetly, without detracting from the overall aesthetic. The aim was to preserve the reception and consultation areas while improving the internal acoustic quality of the Audiology booths.

High acoustic standards

Audiometry rooms must achieve thresholds of less than 30 dB(A) of background noise and reverberation times of less than 0.3 seconds. These values guarantee precise and homogeneous test conditions. The constraints of volume and constituent materials (light partitions, glazing, false ceilings) necessitated a bespoke design of the acoustic treatment.

The Groupe BOËT acoustic solution

To meet these challenges, Groupe BOËT has designed a comprehensive system combining acoustic insulation and sound absorption, drawing on its recognized expertise in building acoustics and noise engineering.

High-performance acoustic doors

A certified acoustic door block was installed to limit sound transmission between the audiometry room and adjacent spaces. Its multi-layer design, with reinforced perimeter seals, guarantees an acoustic attenuation of over 45 dB, while complying with accessibility standards (5 mm PMR threshold).

Insulating glass frame

An acoustic glass frame has been integrated to enable visual communication between practitioner and patient without compromising sound insulation. Acoustic laminated glazing, combined with a rigid frame, reduces mid- and high-frequency transmissions, while preserving the room’s natural luminosity.

Absorbent wall panels

To control reverberation and improve acoustic clarity, absorbent wall panels were installed. Made from high-density mineral materials, they have an absorption coefficient of over 0.9, guaranteeing optimum hearing comfort for conversations and audiometric tests. Their sober, customizable design blends harmoniously with existing furnishings.

Acoustic performance and results

Post-installation acceptance measurements confirmed the regulatory compliance of the audiometric premises:

  • Background noise below 30 dB(A) ;
  • Reduced, uniform reverberation over the entire frequency range 125 Hz – 4 kHz ;
  • No parasitic transmissions between adjacent zones.

These results reflect the success of precise engineering work, reconciling acoustic, technical and aesthetic constraints. The center now boasts a controlled sound environment, conducive to the accuracy of audiometric tests and the quality of patient care.

Impact on test quality and hearing comfort

Acoustic treatment significantly improves the fidelity of audiometric measurements. Practitioners benefit from a stable space, free from sound interference, enabling them to carry out test protocols with maximum precision. Patients benefit from a peaceful environment, conducive to concentration and confidence during examinations.

Over and above regulatory compliance, the project is part of a more global approach to acoustic safety and environmental noise reduction, fundamental values upheld by Groupe Boët in all its sectors of activity: industry, healthcare, energy and critical infrastructures.

In conclusion

The project carried out for the Centre Grand Audition demonstrates Groupe BOËT ‘s ability to design and implement customized acoustic solutions in complex environments. The combination of a high-performance acoustic door unit, insulating glazing and sound-absorbing panels enabled the objectives set to be achieved, guaranteeing exceptional sound comfort.
